Connecticut Department of Agriculture Consumer Complaint

Bruce Gresczyk, Commissioner
Connecticut Department of Agriculture
165 Capitol Avenue
Hartford, CT 06106
Telephone (860)713-2500

Dear Commissioner Gresczyk:

We are writing to seek your assistance and to notify your office regarding the growing use of misleading labeling and marketing practices by certain dairy processors operating in Connecticut.

The Center for Global Food Issues is part of a coalition which has conducted research into the labeling, advertising and other marketing practices of various dairy packagers selling products for more than 4 years. We have recently completed in-store reviews of over 100 retail outlets in the Northeast. We are currently reviewing producer, cooperative and processor surveys which suggest that production demands linked to illegal marketing practices are growing. These demands are creating unfair economic and other burdens for Connecticut dairy producers and processors.
